Orion is a Non-Profit Organisation based in Atlantis, Western Cape. Their main focus is to care and provide for the educational, training and therapeutic needs of children, youth and adults living with physical, mental, intellectual and neurological disabilities.

Link2Grow supports two of Orion’s programs: The Group Homes program and the Wilge Special Day Care Centre. For the past two years, L2G also provided Xmas Shoeboxes for the children at the Wilge Day Care Centre as well as gifts for their carers. Follow this link for photographs of the children and their Santa Shoeboxes.

The Group Homes program: This program provides residential care and a haven from violence and abuse for 60 disabled adults from all parts of the Western & Southern Cape. Opened in April 1995, the complex currently consists of 6 homes, each of which accommodates 10 disabled adults and 2 house parents. Link2Grow supports this program through the donation of household items, e.g. curtains, electric appliances and any items that can help to improve the living conditions of the residents.

Hannl Cronje, CEO of Orion, assisting Bernice Strydom, a Group Home parent with the use of a sewing machine donated by Link2Grow through one of our members, Antoinette Rossouw. Feedback from Orion: The sewing machine makes a valuable contribution towards services to residents, as torn clothes can be repaired, new clothes can be altered and items like curtains can be made. Orion Organisation is proud to have such a sewing machine with such a rich history and memories of precious family members.

The Wilge Special Care Centre: The centre accommodates children with disabilities, from as young as 12 months of age. There are currently 36 children with various disabilities. Children are cared for daily from 08h00 to 15h30, receiving breakfast and lunch as well as an afternoon snack, before being taken back home by special transport arranged by the organisation. Therapy provided includes occupational, speech, music and art therapy, physiotherapy, cognitive development and body massage.

Link2Grow provided Christmas gifts for all the children in the centre. Pictured below are some of the children with their gifts.
