Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra European tour 2016 highlights:
International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music.

Shannon’s experience of the tour to Europe, in her own words:

As the plane gained altitude leaving Cape Town airport , an exhilarating feeling overcame me as I realised that I would soon be in one of the most amazing cities of Europe. I was excited to be part of the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra and we were going to take part in the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music in Bratislava, the capital of the Slovakia.

Europe is a place to experience, different from being in Cape Town, South Africa. I was extremely anxious and nervous being in a different part of the world but as soon as we landed safely in Vienna I felt comfortable .

My experience in Bratislava was that people are very friendly . It’s a very interesting city and lots of old buildings to experience and also the beautiful Danube river. My favourite thing was doing the walking tour around the city with beautiful buildings surrounding me . The best memory of Bratislava was the beautiful Saint Clare church and winning gold in the symphony orchestra category of the competition.

All our hard work and the endless rehearsals payed off. We also had the privilege to attend a rehearsal of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra which was an amazing experience.

After leaving Bratislava we had another concert in Kittsee before arriving in Vienna for a visit. We had a whole day to explore this beautiful city and were taken on a walking tour of the main attractions. The St. Stephens Cathedral was a very special place to see.

Arriving in Budapest , it was extremely cold but yet I was excited to explore the city. The best memory was the boat ride on the Danube river overlooking the beautiful Buda castle at night . Other highlights were the Heroes’ Square and all the Christmas Markets with all the Hungarian delights.

In Prague we walked on the Charles bridge which is the most popular place in Prague . We took a stroll through the old town square with the famous astronomical clock and the very beautiful colorful architecture . Highlights of Prague was visiting the Prague castle . The whole tour ended to soon and we were all sad to leave Prague airport for our flight back to Cape Town.
